“Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.” — Proverbs 17:28
Whenever Marjorie Taylor Greene speaks, she utters lies and embraces fanaticism. Yet, the media hangs on every word — and essay writers devote time to commentary on her serial, low-rent bigotry. Why? Because the GOP has enshrined her as a spokesperson for one of America’s two major political parties.
Blame Kevin McCarthy and the rest of his House management team. So monomaniacal was his lust for power he kissed the fringe right’s ass and fanned their white-hot stupidity. He made his Faustian bargain with the Lord of the Flies and sold his soul for a gavel.
The political idiot savant Greene, played her part by putting her MAGA hands on Kevin’s ass and shoving him up the GOP’s greasy leadership pole — while borrowing his balls from Trump. McCarthy will never star in a Tucker Carlson video ode to masculinity. Eunuchs have no testicles to tan.
Now the rest of us have to listen to the unmoored fulminations of a conspiracy-addled blowhard, unburdened by nuance, estranged from logic, and indifferent to truth. Greene spent her first congressional term in the penalty box for swallowing QAnon whole; publicly berating the survivor of the Parkland school massacre; and a stream of racist, Islamophobic, and anti-Semitic vitriol. Now she has returned in full fur-coated fury to model the values of a party that has shed all traces of decency.
On Tuesday, Greene was in midseason form as she tweeted a video of the testimony from a mother whose two sons died of a fentanyl overdose — along with her commentary:
“Listen to this mother, who lost two children to fentanyl poisoning, tell the truth about both of her son’s murders because of the Biden administrations [sic] refusal to secure our border and stop the Cartel’s [sic] from murdering Americans everyday [sic] by Chinese fentanyl.”
Greene does not give a damn about Rebecca Kiessling or her two deceased sons, Cale and Kyler. This empathy-free opportunist only wanted to carve political wounds into President Biden. Greene blinded by her sanctimonious hate ignored or did not bother to know, that the two victims died on July 29th, 2020 — during Trump’s presidency.
Daniel Dale, a fact checker for CNN, followed up with Greene’s office to shed light on the discrepancy. It went as you would expect. Dale tweeted:
"I asked Greene’s office last night about her tweet blaming the Biden administration for these deaths in 2020 under Trump. Spokesman Nick Dyer responded by saying lots of people have died from drugs under Biden and “do you think they give a fuck about your bullshit fact checking?”
Nothing but class. No one expects much from politicians. But there was a time when civility, no matter how insincere, was a thing. The GOP no longer observes the basic courtesies of public discourse. They are what you get when an amoral pussy-grabber with a devoted base insults his way into leadership.
The GOP reflects its true believers. The MAGAs are not interested in policy. They are triggered by clarion calls extolling “liberty,” “freedom,” “patriotism,” and “parental rights.” All good things. But Republicans rarely talk about the concrete steps to achieve these noble goals beyond “finish the wall,” “burn books,” and “second amendment.” It is endless platitudes and simple-minded pap. Easily digestible. And very white.
The bitter irony is that while the GOP is the party of stupid, some of its most notable sinners are obscenely well-educated. Ted Cruz was a national debate champion. John Kennedy earned a postgraduate law degree from Oxford. And noted Stanford Historian, David Kennedy, called Josh Hawley "arguably the most gifted student I taught in 50 years." All of this proves that IQ confers neither honesty nor honor.
On the other hand, Greene, a woman of modest academic success, does not have to dumb down her act. She is fluent in the language of the base and has a con artist’s instinctive understanding of which buttons to push.
Her ascent to the top of the GOP manure pile has been meteoric. It is a product of her feral political ability and the craven docility of Republican leadership — whose existential fear is that the Mar-a-Lago malevolence will call them names. God, how embarrassing.
They are all embarrassing but she takes the cake 😏 thank you Pitt
