James Comer has 'proof' that the Trump trials have been coordinated by Joe Biden
On Wednesday, James Comer (R-KY), Chair of the House Oversight Committee, talked with the host of Fox Business Network's The Evening Edit, Elizabeth MacDonald. To wrap up the interview, Macdonald asked Comer,
“House Judiciary led by Chair Jim Jordan sent a letter to AG Garland asking why did special counsel — also it looks like you are on this letter and Ways and Means Chair Smith, why did, you know, special counsel Jack Smith’s top aide, Jay Bratt, meet repeatedly with the Biden White House before indictments were handed down and deliver and pushed through by Jack Smith? So what’s going on there? Final word.”
What are these repeated meetings that Bratt had with the Biden White House? I cannot say for sure, as MacDonald offers no details. However, Bratt did indeed go to the White House. Here are the facts
In March, Jay Bratt met with the 23-year-old assistant-level staffer, Caroline Saba, who works in the White House Counsel’s Office. It was not a secret. The meeting was publicly listed in the White House visitor logs and involved no decision-makers. Its purpose was to facilitate an interview between the FBI Agent, Danielle Ray (also noted in the visitor logs), and a Trump-era White House Counsel Office staffer. Saba was there because a member of the Counsel Office sits in on all interviews of White House employees by law enforcement. Note: Saba is not a lawyer. Her role was that of an assistant, ensuring everyone had found the meeting room and had something to drink.
The New York Post, guided by its expedient, partisan lack of journalistic standards, decided this innocuous meeting was evidence of something far more troubling. As proof, they quoted Rudy Giuliani. "There is no legitimate purpose for a line [DOJ] guy to be meeting with the White House except if it’s coordinated by the highest levels.” Note: This is after Giuliani admitted, under oath, in court, that he is a liar — a character blemish confirmed by the Judge in the case.
In a blatant example of projection, Rudy added: “What’s happening is they have trashed every ethical rule that exists, and they have created a state police. It is a Biden state prosecutor and a Biden state police.”
The NY Post offered this clincher: “Nine weeks later, Trump was indicted by Smith’s office on June 8, 2023.” As everyone knows, when one thing happens nine weeks after another, it is proof positive that the earlier event caused the latter.
Comer, however, took everything at face value and parroted the party line.
"We don’t know. There should be no reason for that special counsel’s office to meet with the White House. The only thing that that we can think of is they’re coordinating. We believe that the White House coordinated with Alvin Bragg. We believe they’re coordinating with Fani Willis. We believe all of this is coordination because the White House is in panic mode because the House Oversight Committee has found their corruption, the corruption dating back to his years as vice president."
No reason to meet at the White House? The subject of Smith’s investigation, Trump, worked at the White House for four years. Much of the criminal behavior outlined in the indictment occurred during that time. The DoJ should not interview witnesses?
Comer says that the only thing he can think of is: “They’re coordinating” — a claim that only reveals Comer is either dissembling or has a limited ability to think. Comer proves it is not the second by creating a fantasy that even the NY Post did not dare offer. Out of thin air, he conjures up a multi-agency, multi-state cabal — based solely on his ‘beliefs.’
His rationale for this expansive absurdity is that the White House is panicked because he has found dirt on Biden. So where is it? The House Republicans have all sorts of whistle-blowers who did not show up and an addiction to extravagant wishful thinking, but where is the evidence?
Comer also does not explain why Willis or Bragg should be assisting Biden to distract from his venality. These public servants know they are under the GOP’s spotlight. Surely, they would demand some quid pro quo for risking their careers and freedom. Or maybe Comer thinks they have the same altruistic immorality as the Trump lawyers who will pointlessly throw everything away to enable a narcissistic crook.
Comer, having cut ties with reality, then doubles down on his fever dream by globalizing Biden’s potential to harm America.
"That’s why we’re concerned about his presidency. We believe he’s compromised because countries like Ukraine, Russia, and China know that he broke the law. He was on the take. And we have evidence. And that’s why they’re trying to distract with all of this Trump coordinated court hearings now."
If Comer had evidence, Biden’s impeachment would be the first thing on the House's agenda when they finally return from their six-week vacation on September 12. It is not. Even Kevin McCarthy realizes that unfounded accusations are not vote-getters for Republicans.
Actions speak louder than words. And all the GOP has offered is words and no action. Comer knows MAGAs are uncritical thinkers, but the independents — even the right-leaning ones — need something. Maybe not much — but more than “we believe.”
