Alabama Gov Kay Ivey runs campaign saying “the fake news, Big Tech & blue-state liberals stole the election"
In private, most conservatives want Trump to stop his endless “I was robbed” whine about the 2020 election. They know Biden won legitimately — and nobody stole anything. They also know that the loser's petulance cost them the Senate when the Democrats picked up both Georgia Senate seats by knocking out two incumbents. The GOP has the political wind at its back. And in Virginia Glenn Younkin showed that focusing on the specter of black/gay activist brainwashing in schools — while downplaying the Mar-a-Lago miasma — was a winning strategy,
But the reality is that, while Trump is not helping the GOP overall, he is too potent for individual candidates to dismiss. Especially in ruby-red states, where the real race is the primary. So now, expedient conservatives have to figure just how much orange ass they should kiss to win the imprimatur of the dime-store Caesar.
Kay Ivey, Alabama’s incumbent governor, has chosen total obeisance. In a campaign ad that dropped earlier in April, she threw away any pretense of respect for the truth. The title of the ad — “Stole” alerts the viewer to its content. In it Ivey says,
“The fake news, Big Tech, and blue-state liberals stole the election from President Trump, but here in Alabama, we are making sure that never happens. We have not, and will not, send absentee ballots to everyone and their brother. We banned corrupt curbside voting, and our results will always be audited. I’m Kay Ivey. The left is probably offended – so be it. As long as I’m governor, we’re going to protect your vote.”
Is the left offended? It is Alabama. Liberals do not expect anything less. The state is a cesspit of entrenched bigotry. The good old boys and girls have centuries of incestuous political liaisons dedicated to the proposition that no communist or colored should have any say in the state government. No doubt Trump is delighted. But Alabama has again confirmed that it is quagmired in atavistic bigotry. And prefer to cling to the old oppressions rather than benefit from the C.21st.
As a conservative politician, Ivey has no core values, but she knows which way the wind is blowing. She will have seen that Trump’s pick to represent Alabama in the Senate, Mo Brooks, went down in flames for committing the mortal political sin of telling the truth. In his case, saying that Trump should get over his humiliating defeat and move on. Brooks said out loud what better politicians said only in the inner sanctum of their clubs and think tanks. And Trump rewarded the truth by withdrawing his endorsement. Mind you, it was easy for Trump to do as Brooks was far behind in the polls. What would he have done if Brooks was far ahead?
Conservatives in Alabama have little to worry about — although in the back of their minds they remember that Trump’s endorsement of Roy Moore was insufficient to propel a child abuser into the Senate, as that miserable man lost his race to the Democrat, Doug Jones.
Ivey and her fellow travelers in Alabama are taking no chances of losing one ounce of support. They have taken another run at severely restricting abortions in the state with a “Fetal Heartbeat Law” mirroring that of Texas. The law would make no exceptions for rape, incest, or abuse. Which does not help Alabama shed its reputation for encouraging sex among family members.
As well, the Alabama State School Board has banned the teaching of Critical Race Theory (CRT) in the state’s schools. As a member of the Board, Ivey voted for the ban, saying,
“As I’ve said many times, CRT doesn’t belong in Alabama schools,” Ivey said. “CRT currently isn’t being taught in Alabama classrooms, and I’ve previously called on the Alabama School Board to keep it that way. We need to focus on teaching Alabama kids how to read and write, not hate.”
I am impressed she admitted that CRT was not being taught in Alabama classrooms. However, the vote was in August last year, so I would not be surprised if Ivey has now “discovered” it was being taught all along. If there is one thing conservatives hate, it is consistency if it does not maximize their election chances.
And finally, Ivey has adopted the conservative strategy of winning elections by kicking transgendered youth in the teeth. This Friday Ivey signed two bills. SB 184, which would subject doctors to 10 years in prison for providing puberty blockers and hormones to transgender youth. And HB 322, which forces transgender children to use bathrooms of their birth sex and bans discussions of “sexual orientation or gender identity" in kindergarten through fifth grade that is “not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate.” Her rationale?
"There are very real challenges facing our young people, especially with today’s societal pressures and modern culture. I believe very strongly that if the Good Lord made you a boy, you are a boy, and if he made you a girl, you are a girl."
Why do these benighted people hide their bigotry behind God? They should just admit that they are nasty, unfeeling, narrow-minded sadists.
The Trump Presidency was a devastating oil spill. But while Democrats are trying to clean up the mess, Republicans are running around smearing pollution all over America’s democracy and institutions. And Kay Ivey has leaped into the cess with both feet.
Interesting she doesn’t want to “ teach hate” yet she spews it non stop 😏 thanks again Pitt
